Symposium Held on "The Role of Security Agencies in Ensuring Tourist Safety: Emergency and Crisis Management"

​Today, Monday, May 18, 2026, the Center for Research and Development at the University of Halabja organized a symposium titled "The Role of Security Agencies in Ensuring Tourist Safety: Emergency and Crisis Management" at the University's Central Library.

​The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Bamo Parwezkhan, President of the University of Halabja; Prof. Dr. Sirwan Hamed Ahmed, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs; alongside a significant number of security officials, directors of government institutions in Halabja Governorate, university professors, and students.

​The symposium commenced with a moment of silence in honor of the souls of the martyrs. Afterward, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Mohammed Salih, Director of the Center for Research and Development, delivered the welcoming address.

​The event featured a panel discussion with the participation of:

  • Simko Salar Mushir, Mayor of Halabja Central District
  • Chiya Qasim Hamasalim, Director General of Halabja Tourism
  • Abidin Abdulrahman Mohammed, Director of Halabja Civil Defense Directorate

​The symposium highlighted the fundamental and strategic role of security agencies in providing safety and security for tourists, focusing particularly on two main pillars: delivering rapid emergency response and the capacity to manage unique crises.

​Objectives of the Symposium:

  1. Analyzing the mechanisms used by security agencies to counter risks faced by tourists, such as natural incidents, health emergencies, or legal violations.
  2. Evaluating the level of coordination between security agencies and the tourism sector during times of crisis.
  3. Presenting new strategies to develop and enhance the tourism emergency response system.
